Metal Supermarkets Purchases Metal Express
Metal Supermarkets Corporation® (MSC) is pleased to announce
that effective October 1, 2007, MSC has acquired 100% of the outstanding
units of Metal Mart LLC, dba Metal Express® from A.M. Castle
& Co. (Castle).
“Metal Express’ business model closely mirrored that
of Metal Supermarkets and was a natural, logical and synergistic
fit to our own business” said Stephen Schober, MSC’s
President & Chief Executive Officer. “There were few
markets where there were any overlaps with our existing locations,
thereby enabling us to considerably expand our geographic coverage
in markets we had targeted for our own growth.”
Known worldwide as The Convenience Stores of the Metal
Industry™, Metal Supermarkets is a specialized
metal distributor focusing on small quantities of virtually all
types and forms of metals, custom cut to size, and delivered fast.
While the majority of revenues come from corporate operations,
the company is also the only small quantity metal dealer franchise
in the world and is the world’s largest supplier of small
quantity metals.
Prior to acquiring Metal Express, MSC operated 23 corporate locations
in Canada, the United States, England and Scotland. A total of
60 franchised locations are located in the United States, Canada,
England, Austria and the United Arab Emirates.
Metal Supermarkets was founded in Canada in 1985. Its’
headquarters is in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Prior to its acquisition by MSC, Metal Express operated as an
independent division of Castle, with 15 locations throughout the
US. Known as the nation’s leading Cut-to-Order Metal Specialist,
Metal Express has achieved a stellar reputation in metal distribution
providing an extensive selection of top quality metals and prompt
service.
