Check out our recent recipients and all past winners To date, Metal Supermarkets has awarded $60,000 in financial support for future skilled trades professionals! North America is facing a workforce shortage and skills gap in the trades. The United States is projected to need 320,500 new welding professionals by 2029, while 5 tradespeople retire for every 2 who enter the field. Similarly, in Canada, over 256,000 skilled tradespeople are needed over the next decade to meet demand. As the demand for skilled tradespeople continues to grow across North America, this year we aimed to further strengthen our commitment by assisting students pursuing careers in these fields, which are vital to a wide variety of industries and to maintaining and developing critical infrastructure. “The skilled trades don’t just hold strong in an economic downturn, but they are among the rare sectors that continue to experience significant growth in an unpredictable job market” – Jill Quinn, Executive Leader, PeopleReady Skilled Trades.
