I’ve used metal supermarkets all around the US. I actually haven’t visited the Alexandria location, but one thing is that that I find, only at certain metal supermarkets locations, the “drop bin”
Some metal supermarkets have drop bins where you can find almost scrap prices for drops of steel. Idk if your location has that, and I’ve been meaning to stop by,- but if you don’t sell your drops, you should.

I learned of MS from a radio spot and stopped by the same day. Ivan was extremely helpful and hospitable to look at anything, select and examine possible choices for my project, and ultimately cut the tube perfectly into exact lengths for me. You could make your prices more realistic. I recently got a quote from you of $42 for a 38 inch piece of 1/2 inch aluminum tubing. 36 inches of the same size tubing at Home Depot was about $12- but I needed a longer piece. I looked on Amazon and got a 48 inch piece for about $24 shipped. Not sure why your tubing is so much more- the Home Depot piece was thicker walled even, for less money. I get that it is a special order, but this is way pricier than I expected.
On a positive note- Ivan at the Alexandria store is doing a superb job- he is a definite credit to your brand! He is very pleasant, thorough and professional. I recently left a pair of glasses in the store and discovered I left them there when I got home. I called him and he quickly located the glasses for me and held onto them until I came back to pick up my order. Well Done Sir!

While metal prices seem to be high to me, Metal Supermarkets costs less per foot than I’ve found at the national building supply stores for the same items – PLUS – Metal Supermarkets cuts the stock to length at no additional cost and charges by the inch. The end result is a better deal all around — less work for me, minimal waste and lower price!

Metal SuperMarkets for the win! I’m a concrete contractor that had been on an already tight schedule when we encountered an issue with delivery through another vendor. In a time crunch, the Alexandria store was able to come through on super short notice and not only have the metals I needed, but all cut & packaged for me when I went for pick up. Everything I ordered had been cut to size & allowed us to pass inspection. We will definitely be using again in the future!

It is convenient to grab a few small pieces of metal. But the pricing is high and sometimes and extra 50-75% more than BMG Metals or other metal suppliers. The manager at the Alexandria store says the metal is a stronger steel. That maybe true, but, I’m not using it for structural purposes. The pricing isn’t that far off from Lowes or Home Depot. So if I’m not looking for a specific style, I will just go to those box stores and pick up the small piece I need. Except for plate steel or aluminum. The box stores are ridiculous. I do a lot of metal projects and don’t mind getting 20′ pieces.

The location is the reason for the high recommendation. We’ve had some issues with delivery drivers leaving without making contact via phone or in person rather than dropping off metal. Our business has each dept head manage orders and sometimes the invoices are sent to wrong people or not at all. All new-location growing pains that I hope will improve.
