Bronze is an alloy that consists primarily of copper with the addition of other ingredients ─ typically tin. Arsenic, phosphorus, aluminum, manganese, and silicon can also be used to produce different properties. All of these ingredients produce an alloy much harder than copper alone.
Metal Supermarkets offers a variety of shapes and grades of bronze, cut to the size you need, including: 932 and 954. Select from one of the available shapes below to get started. Or contact your closest store for assistance with metal sourcing.
Bronze is characterized by its dull-gold color, and has faint rings on its surface (which helps differentiate it from brass).
Bronze C954 (aluminum bronze) is known for its high strength and corrosion resistance when compared to other bronze alloys. In atmospheric conditions, this alloy is tarnish- and corrosion-resistant; at high temperatures it has low oxidation rates.
Bronze C932, more commonly known as bearing bronze, is typically used in bushing and bearing applications. It offers easy machinability as well as long lifespan for those situations where wear is an important factor.
More generally, the material is used in the construction of sculptures, musical instruments and medals, and in industrial applications such as bushings and bearings, where its low metal on metal friction is an advantage.
Bronze also has nautical applications because of its resistance to corrosion.
Other applications include bearings and bushings, pump impellers, valve components, wire brushes, chemical hardware, gears, and pipe fittings.
