Mild Steel Rebar Hot Rolled is a reinforcing bar of hot rolled mild steel. This rebar provides excellent tensile strength and flexibility, making it essential for reinforcing beams, slabs, and foundations in construction projects.
Is rebar hot rolled steel?
In many standard construction applications, rebar is hot rolled carbon steel with a deformed surface for bonding to concrete. However, exact material requirements can vary by grade, specification, and project design, so always confirm the required rebar type before ordering.
What is the difference between rebar and wire mesh?
Rebar provides stronger, more localized reinforcement and is often used where concrete needs higher tensile support, such as foundations, footings, driveways, walls, and thicker slabs. Wire mesh is typically used for lighter crack control across broader slab areas, but it may not provide the same structural reinforcement as properly sized and placed rebar.
Can I weld mild steel rebar?
Some mild steel rebar can be welded, but not all rebar is weldable without special procedures. Weldability depends on the bar grade, chemistry, carbon equivalent, and project requirements, so only weld rebar when allowed by the drawings, code, or engineer. If welding is approved, use qualified welders, compatible filler metal, and proper preheating or temperature control to reduce cracking risk. For many reinforcement jobs, tying rebar with wire or using mechanical couplers is preferred because it reduces the risk of heat-related issues and is easier to inspect.
Can I substitute one rebar size for another?
Not without checking the project requirements first. Rebar is specified by steel area, spacing, placement, and concrete cover, not just the number of bars. Swapping #4 for #3, or #5 for #4, can change the strength, crack control, and spacing of the reinforced section. If a substitution is needed, match the required steel cross-sectional area and confirm the revised spacing, lap lengths, and code limits with your engineer or inspector before ordering.
Can I buy rebar in shorter lengths instead of full stock lengths?
Yes. Metal Supermarkets can cut hot rolled rebar to the lengths you need, so you do not have to buy, transport, or cut full-length bars yourself. This is especially helpful for small pours, tight jobsites, repairs, formed sections, and projects where excess offcuts would create unnecessary waste.
Get hot rolled steel rebar cut to your exact specifications with no minimum order. Metal Supermarkets also carries related mild steel products, including hot rolled round bar, hot rolled square bar, and structural welded square tube.
