Stainless steel rod 316 has a higher resistance to corrosion than stainless steel 304 and contains molybdenum for increased corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides and acids. They come in various diameters sizes (A) and a number of threads per inch (B).
316 is manufactured to meet specific standards such as ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) A193 or A320. Stainless steel 316 contains chromium (16-18%), nickel (10-14%), and significant amounts of molybdenum (2-3%). Typically has a low carbon content (around 0.08%), which helps prevent carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries, reducing susceptibility to corrosion. Exhibits good resistance to oxidation at temperatures up to 870°C (about 1600°F), making it suitable for high-temperature applications.
