I have used Metal supermarket many times. They have always had what I needed. I’ve bought aluminum, stainless and cold rolled steel, I can usually pick it up the same day, price is very reasonable, and the best part is no minimum order.

You can go to Lowes, buy a 3ft long, 1″ wide piece of garbage hot rolled steel for about $30, or go to MS and get the same piece cold rolled for probably half as much. It’s a no brainer.

To unpack that a bit . . . let’s look at the available markets for metals in the US: For individuals or small businesses, the only places I can think of where metals are readily available are (1) Home Depot and Lowe’s have a very small assortment of metals and (2) Metal Supermarkets. There are no other sources. Therefore . . . and to repeat: I like that you exist.
A RELATED OBSERVATION: Metals Supermarkets currently benefits from a market situation where there is no competition . . . yet. As long as Metal Super Markets continues to serve the public well, it’s unlikely that competition will arise. However, if Metal Super Markets becomes lax and does not serve customer needs, motivation for others to enter this market will become strong.

In the two times I’ve done business with them, they’ve always had what I needed. They also allowed me to wander through their warehouse sizing different items for a project I’m working on. My only reason for not giving them a 10 score is that they failed to tell me, after I asked about cutting my material in half, to fit in my truck, that it would delay my pickup by a day. After a 30 mile drive I had to go buy a hacksaw and do it myself. They did, however, not charge me for a piece of scrap aluminum plate that I found there. Not sure if that is SOP but I appreciated it.
