Blue Brittleness

Brittlenesss exhibited by some steels after being heated to some temperature within the range of 300° to 650°F, and more especially if the steel is worked at the elevated temperature. There can be an increase in strength and a substantial decrease in ductility or impact strength. Killed steels are virtually free of this kind of brittleness.
