Hard Chromium

Hard chromium is chromium deposited for engineering purposes, such as increasing the wear resistance of sliding metal surfaces, rather than as a decorative coating. It is usually applied directly to basis metal and customarily thicker than a decorative deposit. Various types of hard chrome include micro-cracked chromium, micro-porous chromium, porous chromium and crack free chromium.
