Mild steel threaded rod galvanized is a threaded mild steel that has been galvanized. It is used in general purpose fastening. We offer rods with National Coarse Thread.
The process of hot-dip galvanizing steel products adds a thin layer of zinc. This is achieved by passing the steel through a molten bath of zinc at a temperature of around 860 °F (460 °C). When exposed to the atmosphere, pure zinc reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide. This further reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate, a dull grey, fairly strong material that stops further corrosion in many circumstances, protecting the steel below from the elements.
With galvanized (hot dipped), the coating typically can be 1.0 Mils (thousands of inch) or (0.0254 MM) thick on average.
There is around 5 times the zinc protection with galvanized (hot dipped) over zinc plated.
